STARKVILLE, Miss. – Senior Shanna Christian of Ponderosa High School in Parker, Co., has been named the MaxPreps High School Player of the Week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for games played through October 15, 2011.

Christian went 2-0 on the mound last week, including striking out 15 in a complete game victory over Cherokee Trail (Aurora, Co.). Against Chatfield (Littleton, Co.), Christian was called upon in relief, and she responded by shutting down a surging Charger offense, scattering 2 hits over five innings. So far this season the senior has held opposing hitters to .207 on the year, striking out 143 while yielding only 13 extra base hits in 106.2 innings pitched.  With the wins last week the Mustangs improve to 7-3 in conference, 16-5 overall.

To nominate a player for the award, the coach must enter his or her athlete's game stats into MaxPreps.com by Sunday evening to be eligible for that week’s award. The NFCA High School Players of the Week, one for each high school region, will be announced by the Association on www.nfca.org every Monday during the spring season.
