STARKVILLE, Miss. – For the final MaxPreps awards of the Spring season, seniors Haley Anderson of New Egypt High School in New Egypt, N.J. and Alexa Larkin of Greater Latrobe High School in Latrobe, Pa., have both been named as the High School Players of the Week for their respective regions by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for games played through June 13th, 2011.
From the East Region, Anderson hit two home runs including a 7th inning grandslam, to help lift the Warriors to their second consecutive New Jersey Group 1 State Title. Prior to the state championship game, the senior had hit only one other home run in her career. For the game the catcher was two for four with six RBI. The Warriors finished the season with a record of 25-3.
Representing the North Region, Larkin continued her dominating ways in the circle, turning in a two-hitter with 16 strikeouts and no walks. She fanned 14 of the final 16 she faced helping the Wildcats to a 1-0 victory in the PIAA Class AAAA quarterfinal over Erie McDowel. It was the seniors third double digit performance in as many games. So far this season the left-hander owns a .93 ERA and has struck out 182 in 98.1 innings pitched. Latrobe will face Pennsbury in today's state semi-final.
