LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The So Cal Athletics 18U Gold, led by head coach Bruce Richardson and assisted by Rob Weil, Sean Nierman, Jamie Weldecker and Andrew Weil have been named the 2012 NFCA Travel Ball National Coaching Staff of the Year.
“We take it as a very nice honor. We were nominated by someone outside the organization and voted on by our peers. It’s a great honor,” Richardson said. “We had a great year. We won 100 games and lost only 14. We had a very good team these past three years. It’s been a very good run for us and this award tops it off, and verifies that we’re going in the right direction.”
The Athletics claimed their third consecutive Premier Girls Fastpitch national championship while finishing the year with a (100-14) record over the 2011-12 season. Richardson’s team placed first in the PGF tournament and also turned in a second place finish in the Boulder Independence Day tournament in 2012.
In addition to success on the field, the Athletics have 14 of 15 players from this year’s squad signed to scholarships or with verbal commitments to college programs and will continue to pursue their education through the help of softball.
The NFCA Travel Ball National Coaching Staff of the Year award is presented annually to the top member coaching staff as voted on by the Association’s travel ball membership.
