
Presented annually by adidas, the NFCA’s “Official Footwear,” the Golden Shoe Award recognizes athletes from NFCA member schools in each of the following nine divisions: NCAA (Divisions I, II and III), NAIA, NJCAA (Divisions I, II and III), Cal JC and NWAACC.
Divisional committees comprised of NFCA member coaches determined the adidas Golden Shoe Award winners. The winners, by division, were as follows:
NCAA Division I — Caitlin Lowe, University of Arizona
Lowe hit a team-best .414 and stole 49 of 50 bases, third best in Division I, on the year as she helped lead the Wildcats to a second straight national title. The 2006 Division I winner also paced the squad in runs scored (57) and tied for the team lead in triples (3). Lowe finished her career with 156 stolen bases, a mark that ranks her first in Arizona annals and 11th all-time in the NCAA record books.
NCAA Division II — Kandace Kubat, Angelo State University
Kubat earned the adidas Golden Shoe Award for the second consecutive season as she stole 47 of 56 bases in leading Angelo State back to the NCAA Division II Women’s Softball Championship. The first team all-American led the Rambelles to a 53-13 record as she led the team with a .399 average and a school record 67 runs scored.
NCAA Division III — Lindsay Shepherd, Capital University
Shepherd stole 47 bases in 51 attempts to rank third nationally in Division III for the 2007 season. The junior averaged 1.15 stolen bases a game as she guided the Crusaders to a 25-17 record and a third-place showing in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Shepherd also paced Capital in batting average (.478), hits (65) and runs (45).
NAIA — Chelsea Bailey, Trevecca Nazarene University
Bailey stole 50 bases in 68 games as she helped Trevecca Nazarene to NAIA’s fifth-best stolen base per game average. The sophomore ranked second on the TNU squad at the plate, hitting .425 as the Trojans finished the year 59-11 and earned a berth in the NAIA National Tournament. She paced the squad in runs scored with 68, and she finished second in doubles (16) and triples (three).
NJCAA Division I — Breana Casaus, Odessa College
Casaus stole an NJCAA Division I-best 59 of 66 bases on the season as the Lady Wranglers finished the season with a 34-20-1 overall mark and an 18-6 conference record. Casaus hit a team-leading .480 on the year, and she paced the squad with 60 runs scored while driving in 23 more.
NJCAA Division II — Ashley Souphimdara, Iowa Lakes Community College
Souphimdara swiped 45 of 47 bases in 2007 as she helped guide Iowa Lakes to a 38-19 record. Her 95-percent stolen-base percentage ranked fourth in NJCAA Division II. The team’s second-best hitter at a .459 clip, the sophomore drove in 28 runs over the 56-game slate.
NJCAA Division III — Brandi Hawk, Corning Community College
Hawk stole 36 of 41 bases for Corning in 2007 to rank second in NJCAA Division III. The first-year standout tied for the team lead in hitting as she notched a .406 average over 29 games. She also drove in 10 runs and scored 29 times on the year as the Red Barons finished the season with a 20-12 mark.
Cal JC — Aly Henderson, Shasta College
Henderson compiled a perfect 47-for-47 mark, the third-best total in school history, in the stolen base category this season for Shasta. The league’s leading base stealer as a freshman, Henderson hit .358 while notching 13 doubles, four triples and eight home runs. She drove in 27 runs and scored 36 times in leading Shasta to a 22-win campaign.
NWAACC — Dani Monson, Everett Community College
Monson tallied 54 stolen bases as she helped guide Everett to a 45-12 record and a first-place finish in the North region. Monson ranked sixth in NWAACC as she hit .512 on the year. The sophomore collected 88 hits on the year as she helped the Trojans earn a berth in the NWAACC playoffs.
