CLEARWATER, Fla. – On a gorgeous, sun drenched Friday at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Fla., a combined 56 teams stretching over separate 16 and 18-under competitions began pool play action at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top Recruit Tournament.
Nine 18-under squads managed perfect 2-0 starts at the event as Tampa Mustangs-Boynton, Tampa Mustangs Gold-Conrad, Sarasota Heat 18-U Gold, Quick Silver, Team FL 18-U Gold, Gainesville Gold-Strickland, Central FL Eagles, Lady Gators-Jackson and Tampa Young Guns each registered a pair of opening day triumphs. Tampa Mustangs-Conrad posted the highest run differential, outscoring its pair of foes by a total of 17 tallies, 18-1. Quick Silver was next in highest scoring output at 17 runs, trailed closely by Tampa Mustangs-Tatum with 16.
Of the 24 participating 16-under teams in Clearwater, the Orlando Flames, Santa Fe Inferno 98, Sarasota Heat 16-U, Quinco SB Academy Stingrays and Wildfire 16-U Stutsman made up a list of those that remained flawless at 2-0 following the first day of action.
Pool play will continue on Sat., Oct. 12, at 8 a.m. ET on all nine of the complex’s fields. Included among those lid-lifting match-ups are (in 16-under action on fields 1-3): Tampa Mustangs-Phil vs. Santa Fe Inferno 98, Gold Coast Hurricanes vs. Florida Fusion and Bocca Impact vs. Red Raiders. In 18-under action on fields 4-9: Southern Shockers-Keith vs. Gold Coast Hurricanes 18-U, Wagner’s Gold-Dunn vs. Cooper City Cobras, Krusherz-Bobby vs. Team Mizuno-Szelest, New Era Diamond Girls vs. CLW Lady Bombers Gold, Tampa Mustangs-Boynton vs. Lady Falcons 18-U and Panthers Fastpitch vs. Team Mizuno-Morgan.
All bracket play for both divisions will commence on Sat., Oct. 12. Action in the 18-U Gold, Silver and Copper brackets is slated to open at 4 p.m. ET with the 18-U Bronze bracket set for an 8 p.m. ET start. In the 16-under division, play in the Gold, Silver and Bronze brackets will get underway at 6 p.m. ET.
