COLUMBUS, Ga. – Following opening day action on Fri., February 28, at the South Commons Complex in Columbus, Ga., nine teams remain unbeaten at the top of their respective pools with perfect 2-0 marks: San Jacinto, Lake Land, Midland, Kirkwood, Northwest Florida State, Odessa, Gordon State, LSU-Eunice and Blinn.
LSU-Eunice, the defending NJCAA Division II national champ and its current No. 1-ranked squad, joined Northwest Florida State as the most dominant two teams on the initial day of the event with each registering a pair of run-rule victories. The Lady Bengals roared over Indian Hills (9-0 in 5 inn.) and Pasco-Hernando (12-0 in 5 inn.), while the Raiders swept past Central Alabama (14-4 in 5 inn.) and CCBC-Catonsville (8-0 in 5 inn.).
Trailing just behind that duo, according to run differential among the remaining 2-0 teams, were Lake Land College (+12), Blinn College (+11) and San Jacinto (+9). SJC picked up an impressive victory over defending NJCAA Division I national champ and No 1-ranked Wallace State-Hanceville (4-3 in 8 inn.).
This year’s classic is divided into pool and bracket play, with each team guaranteed a minimum of five games. Each squad plays the other three schools in their pool. Once pool play is completed, the teams will be divided into three brackets (Gold, Silver & Bronze) of eight teams each. Bracket play commences on Sat., March 1, at 5 p.m. ET.
Single day tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for children 12 & under and $5 for youth/military groups of 10 or more. Full tournament passes are also available for $25 for adults and $15 for children 12 & under.
