CLEARWATER, Fla. – With only Sunday’s action remaining in the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla., No. 15 Michigan leads the standings overall as the event’s lone undefeated squad at 4-0.
The Wolverines (10-2) opened Saturday with a 6-0 victory over UC Davis before closing their day’s efforts with a 3-0 shutout of Hofstra. In the nightcap UM pitcher Sara Driesenga outdueled Pride All-American hurler Olivia Galati while tossing a no-hitter with nine strikeouts.
Right behind the Maize & Blue in the standings is a logjam of five teams in possession of identical 3-1 records: James Madison, Louisiana-Lafayette, Indiana, UCF and DePaul. The Blue Demons and Wolverines will contest a Sunday match-up at 10 a.m. ET on Field 3.
Two teams have failed to win a single game thus far at the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic as No. 17 USF and Fordham each possess 0-4 marks.
Play kicks-off bright and early on Sun., Feb. 24, at 9:30 a.m. ET with UC Davis facing Illinois State.
The NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic features a round-robin style format with the championship going to the team with the best winning percentage on the weekend. In case of ties, a series of pre-determined tiebreakers will be used to decide winners. Individual performances will also be honored at the tournament with a Most Valuable Player and Most Valuable Pitcher award, as well as an All-Tournament team.
Single day tickets are available for $10 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under. Full tournament passes will also be available for $25 for adults and $15 for children. Special group rates of $5 will also be available for groups of 10 or more youth or military personnel.
