STARKVILLE, Miss. – Norco High School (Calif.) became the first team in 2012 to sit atop the USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25 poll on Thursday when the Association released its first edition of the rankings. The Cougars went 6-0 at the TNT Tournament in Torrance this past week and are currently 13-0 on the year.
Coming in at second in the inital rankings was Estrella Foothills (Ariz.), which is still undefeated at 21-0, and was followed in third by Alvin (Texas) at 26-1. The state of Florida rounded out the top five spots with Niceville (17-1) checking in at fourth and Palm Beach Gardens coming in at fifth with a record of 18-1.
The Lone Star state of Texas led the way in this week’s ranking with five schools and was closely followed by California and Florida, which had four each. Arizona notched three schools in the latest rankings, while Louisiana and Kentucky rounded out states placing multiple teams in the poll with two a piece.
The USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25 poll is compiled by state representatives from across the country. Records for this week’s poll include all games played through March 28, 2012.
