STARKVILLE, Miss. – Norco (Calif.) moves up two spots and returns to the No. 1 spot in this week’s USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25 poll, released by the Association Thursday. The Cougars (30-2) tacked on three wins this past week and have advanced to the Southern Section Division I championship game.
In the No. 2 spot this week is Northern (Md.) (25-0), which won its fifth-straight Maryland state championship with a 10-0 victory over Liganore. Shaking up the rest of the top five and coming in at No. 3 is Keystone (Ohio), which has advanced to the Division II state semifinals after winning two games this week and improving their already flawless record to 30-0.
Rounding out the top five this week are Porter Ridge (N.C.) (30-0) and Bishop O’Connell (Va.) (27-1), respectively. Bishop O’Connell’s season ended on a high note with the Virginia state title, while Porter Ridge will be competing for the North Carolina 4A state championship this week.
With the new additions to the top five, some teams fell in this week’s poll; previous No. 1 El Diamante (Calif.) was upset by Clovis this past week to end its season. Alexander Central (N.C.) (29-2) and The Woodlands (Tex.) (30-5) both dropped down in the rankings to seventh and eighth, respectively.
