Adrienne MonkaSTARKVILLE, Miss. – Junior first baseman Adrienne Monka of Northwestern has been named as the NFCA National Player of the Week for games played Apr. 18-24, 2011. 

Monka was absolutely perfect for the Wildcats during their Big 10 doubleheader sweep of Ohio State as she went 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, seven RBIs and five walks. She ended the week with a perfect 1.000 batting average and on-base percentage and also turned in an astronomical 2.333 slugging percentage. 

During the first game of the series, Monka was 2-for-2 with five RBIs to help lead Northwestern to a 14-0 win. In the second game, she was equally as impressive by going 1-for-1 with two RBIs and three walks in the 12-2 Wildcat victory. 

For the year, Monka leads her team with a .506 batting average as well as six doubles, 10 home runs and 46 RBIs. Out of 234 total chances this season in the field, she has not committed a single error at first base. 

With the two wins over Ohio State last week, Northwestern is currently 22-13 overall and 4-6 in Big 10 play. This week, the Wildcats will look to improve on their spot in the conference table when they travel to Purdue on Wednesday and Illinois on Friday.

Murray State’s Jenna Bradley went .692 last with two doubles and four home runs to help lead the Racers to a 4-1 week… Texas’ Courtney Craig was 9-for-13 last week with four home runs and seven RBIs as the Longhorns went 4-0… Kelsey Bruder of Florida helped lead the Gators to a 2-1 series win over then fourth-ranked Alabama by going 7-for-16 and hitting for the cycle in the series… Dallas Escobedo of Arizona State was 2-0 last week with 21 strikeouts as the Sun Devils swept then seventh-ranked Arizona on the road for the first time in program history.
