
“Tim Kiernan has a history with women’s professional softball that dates back to the original formation of the WPSL and we are very happy to have him join us again.” said Commissioner Cheri Kempf. “Tim’s experience will bring stability, expertise, and motivation to a young and exciting Diamonds roster.”
Kiernan’s stints as head coach in professional softball include a season with the WPSL’s Virginia Roadsters in 1999, NPF Tour Teams in 2001 and 2003, and a season at the helm of the Sacramento Sunbirds in 2004. “I am really looking forward to coming back into the National Pro Fastpitch League and to coach the NPF Diamonds in 2011. I am excited to coach some of the best players in the world and to vie for a NPF Championship,” said Kiernan.
Kiernan has been at the helm of the Sacramento City College since the 1982 Season. He has won over fifty-three junior college tournaments. He had over eight top ten national academic teams. His teams have been known to be fast on the base paths with having stolen over 150 bases each year. Kiernan’s Teams have also been known for their strong defense and pitching. In 1988, Coach Kiernan won the California state tournament without giving up a run.
Kiernan has sent over 160 Pplayers from the junior college level to compete at four year schools. Those schools include UCLA, Arizona, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. He has had over 61 all-state Players, 10 NCAA Division I All-Americans, and 12 NCAA Division II All-Americans. Nine of his former players have played in the WCWS with six of them playing in the WPSL.
Kiernan has been named Conference and State Coach of the Year. He hay been honored as the Sacramento Area Hall of Fame Coach of the Year for several years. Currently, Kiernan has over 67 former players coaching in high school or college.
Kiernan’s first duty as head coach of the NPF Diamonds will be to attend the NPF College Senior Draft presented by Miken, to be held in Orlando, Fla. on Mar. 18th at the prestigious Amway Center. It will be there, where Kiernan will announce the NPF Diamond’s draft picks for the upcoming 2011 NPF season.

The NPF Diamonds have a the first overall pick in the 2011 NPF College Senior Draft presented by Miken. The Draft will be streamed on March 18, 2011 at 8 p.m. EST from the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. For the third consecutive year the NPF will broadcast the draft on MLB.com.
