The ProFastpitch Extreme Tour has selected Texas pitcher Cat Osterman as the top pick in the tour’s inaugural draft. 

The PFX Tour opens play in 2006 with tour stops in Oklahoma City; Orlando; Marietta, Ohio; St. Louis; Sacramento; Lancaster, Calif.; Fresno, Calif.; and Indianapolis. The inaugural PFX Tour National Championship will be held in Oklahoma City Oct. 27-29. 

Osterman, the two-time collegiate player of the year, was one of two Longhorns selected as Tina Boutelle was selected at No. 15. UCLA had three players drafted with Andrea Duran (No. 5), Caitlin Benyi (No. 10) and Emily Zaplatosch (No. 11). 

Stanford’s Laura Lappin was taken at No. 2, while teammate Catalina Morris was selected with the seventh selection. 

Alabama also had a pair of players drafted as Stephanie VanBrakle was taken 13th and Dominique Accetturo 17th. SEC foe Tennessee’s Kristi Duran was taken at No. 12. 

The only other teams with multiple selections were Pac-10 foes Oregon State and Washington. OSU’s Adrienne Alo was selected at No. 6 while Lisa Allen was taken with the 16th selection. The Huskies had Aimee Miner taken at No. 9, and Sarah Hyatt at No. 19. 

Arizona’s Alicia Hollowell was taken with the third pick, while Jennie Ritter of Michigan was taken at No. 4. Another hurler, Cal’s Kristina Thorson, was taken in the top 10 at No. 8. 

Kristin Vesely of Oklahoma was taken at No. 14, while Christina Clark of Fresno State was tabbed with the No. 18 selection. Baylor’s Harmony Schwethelm was the final pick of the draft at No. 20. 

The PFX Tour Web site lists Lisa Fernandez, Laura Berg, Stacey Nuveman, Jessica Mendoza, Jaime Foutch, Dana Sorensen, Jessica Leslie, Randi Berg, Courtney Weed, Rachel Countryman, Brandey Weed and Bridget Fournie as already having signed to play for the tour.
