LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Pacific (Ore.) University’s Ashley Mitchell and repeat winner Annie Pitkin of Washington (Mo.) University have been selected as the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
Mitchell, a junior first baseman from Redmond, Wash., was 8-for-13 (.615) with a double, three homers and eight runs batted in last week. She did not strike out in her four games last week — all wins for the (13-5) Boxers.
Meanwhile, Pitkin, a junior right-hander from West Springfield, Mass., earned her second straight National Pitcher of the Week honor after a 2-0 week that included a save and two shutouts. She allowed four hits, no runs, no walks and struck out 24 over 15 innings.
Pitkin tossed a one-hitter (11 strikeouts) against Thomas More and had a three-hitter (10 strikeouts) against Adrian. Her save in a 5-4 triumph over Agnes Scott was the school-record sixth of her career and she fanned the side to record it.
