HAARLEM, Netherlands -- Unfortunately, due to heavy rain and unplayable fields, all scheduled games onFriday at the XIV ISF Women's World Championship had to be cancelled.
Due to weather predictions, the schedule for Day 8 already had been adjusted the evening before. Two games in the Championship Round (Australia vs. Japan & Canada vs. USA) were to start in the morning, to be followed by the four games in the Consolation Round and the two remaining games of the final eight (New Zealand vs. Chinese Taipei & Netherlands vs. China).
But as heavy rain again struck during the night and in the morning, the games were postponed. After a meeting, it was decided that all games of Day 8 would be cancelled, as it was impossible to get the two playing fields dry due to the enormous amount of rain that had fell.
The schedule will now resume on Saturday morning at 10am with the first two games in the Championship Round: Australia vs. Japan and Canada vs. USA. These will be followed by the next two games, which are tentatively scheduled to start at 12:30pm and includes the Netherlands vs. China and New Zealand vs. Chinese Taipei. The next playoff round will be played, followed by the two semifinals. The games in the Consolation Round have been cancelled.
