500 Wins For Revelle
Nebraska's Rhonda Revelle won her 500th career game at Nebraska last week, a tough 3-2 win over Texas Tech in Lincoln. Earlier this season, she became just the third coach of any sport in school history when the Huskers defeated Cal State Fullerton on March 19. She now has a 508-269 career record.
Eriksen Joins 400-Win Club
South Florida head coach Ken Eriksen picked up his 400th win of his career in a 7-2 win over UAB. Eriksen has been with the USF program since its inception in 1985. His career record is 400-206-1 since taking over for Hildred Deese in 1997. Eriksen has only suffered one losing season, and served as sn assistant coach on the 2004 USA Olympic Team.
Big K Game
Senior Aimee Murch broke her own school record by striking out 22 batters in a 12-inning, 2-1 Sunshine State Conference win over Saint Leo. She has now struck out 315 batters over the season, also breaking her own single-season mark. Murch has won 11 consecutive starts.
Surprise In the Peach Belt
The Peach Belt Conference always features one of the most exciting, and earliest, conference tournament in Division II. The 2005 PBC tourney was no exception, with two top ten teams (Kennesaw State, North Florida) leading the field. But it was Columbus State which captured its first conference tournament in school history with a 10-7 win over Kennesaw State. The Cougars receive the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, and debuted at No. 25 in the latest NFCA Division II Top 25 poll.
12-0 Wildcats
Northwestern swept Indiana and Purdue to improve to 12-0 in the Big Ten. The Wildcats have swept all six Big Ten foes that they have faced this season, and has now won 30 games for the third consecutive season. Junior Kristen Amegin hit her 21st home run of her career in an 8-2 win over Bradley, making her the school's all-time home run leader.
Unbeaten
The lone unbeaten college team is Northern Kentucky in Division II. The Norse, who reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the NFCA Division II Top 25 poll, are 38-0, 10-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Head coach Kathy Stewart's squad has knocked off a pair of top five foes in Kennesaw State and Shippensburg this season. The Division II national record for consecutive wins is 39, which can be matched and broken in a home doubleheader with Indianapolis on Thursday.
1,000 K Club
Just a sophomore, Tennessee's Monica Abbott continues to make a name for herself. In the fifth inning of a 4-0 win over Austin Peay, Abbott became just the 27th Division I pitcher to accomplish that feat.
What A Week For Higginbotham
Minnesota's Megan Higginbotham went 12-for-14 (.857) with two home runs, three doubles, five runs scored and eight RBIs for the Gophers last week. In a two-game sweep of North Dakota State, she went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. She went 8-for-9 in Minnesota's two game sweep of Michigan State in conference play last weekend.
