LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Veronica Alred of Rollins and Hanna Gill of Southern Arkansas have been chosen as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week for February 27, respectively.

In helping No. 8 Rollins to a perfect 8-0 week, Alred, a junior utility player and reigning Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, hit .560 overall (14-for-25) with seven runs scored, three HR’s and 15 RBIs while slugging at a .960 clip.  She hit safely in six of the Tars’ eight contests with multiple base knocks in each of those match-ups. During a 16-0 victory over Kentucky State, Alred had a career day, going 3-for-3 with two HR’s, including a grand slam, and seven RBIs.  A native of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., she currently owns a .410 season batting average with a team-best four HR’s to go along with 22 RBIs.

The current Great American Conference’s Pitcher of the Week, Southern Arkansas’ Gill played a major role in the Lady Muleriders’ perfect week.  She made five appearances in the circle while registering a 4-0 record with a miniscule 0.57 ERA, a save and 32 strikeouts over just 24 innings of work while allowing the opposition to hit at just a .134 clip. A sophomore at SAU, Gill struck out 11 during a 9-1 (6 inn.) triumph over Arkansas Tech and eight in both a 4-3 win against Newman and a 4-0 shutout of Arkansas Tech. Currently 8-3 on the season, Gill has fired nine complete games, tallied a 2.75 ERA and struck out 75 batters in a team-high 76.1 innings of work.

Indianapolis’ Bailey Wittenauer batted .529 (9-for-17) with three HR’s, eight RBI and a 1.176 slugging percentage…Whitney Brown of West Alabama hit .755 (7-for-8) with two doubles, a triple, three HRs and 12 RBIs in just two games against Miles College…Kelly Unkrich of Colorado School of Mines was a perfect 2-0 from the circle with a 0.00 ERA, two complete-game shutouts and 13 K’s in 12 innings…Minnesota State Mankato’s Samantha Holien hit .417 (5-for-12) with a double, two HR’s and eight RBIs…Mackenzie Spanko of Southern Arkansas batted .500 (7-for-14) with a grand slam and five RBIs…Regis (Colo.) senior Bre Backlund was 4-for-6 (.667) with three doubles, a triple and two RBIs in a pair of contests, upping her season average to a remarkable .560…West Georgia’s Megan Roberts was 3-0 with a save, a 0.44 ERA and 20 strikeouts in just 16 frames…Vianna Gutierrez of St. Mary’s hit .588 with a pair of HR’s and 10 RBIs while also going 2-0 from the circle with a 0.84 ERA and 20 K’s…Lisa Ripperger of Northeastern State batted .769 (10-for-13) with a HR and four RBI…Lauren Smith of Angelo State posted an .833 (5-for-6) average with five RBIs during a pair of victories over Texas A&M International…Morgan Lintz of Winona State knocked in 11 runs while hitting .636 (7-for-11) at the dish…Minnesota Duluth’s Julia Nealer was 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 25 K’s in 19 innings while tossing a pair of no-hitters…Rollins’ Niki Fogle was 4-0 with three complete-game blankings and 23 K’s in 22.2 frames of effort.
