Winona State senior Amanda Wilhelm and Lock Haven senior Kristin Erb have been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the NFCA announced on Wednesday. The student-athletes were honored for their performances for the week of March 23-29, 2009.

Amanda Wilhelm helped Winona State open its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season with a pair of wins over Northern State University and extend its winning streak to eight games. Wilhelm, who was also named the NSIC Player of the Week, hit .667 last week, going 10-for-15 with a double and five home runs.

The La Crosse, Wis., native scored eight runs with 10 RBI and finished with a 1.733 slugging percentage. She hit home runs in four of her team’s six games on the week and did not strike out while walking five times for a .750 on-base percentage. Defensively, Wilhelm was perfect on 20 chances.

Kristin Erb led Lock Haven to a perfect week with Erb going 4-0 in the circle while pitching in all of her team’s games. She kicked off PSAC Central play with a perfect game against Mansfield, striking out 13 over six innings (9-0 win). In the nightcap, the Lady Eagles won 2-1 with Erb pitching a one-hitter, striking out nine.

The Reading, Pa., native picked up both wins over Mercyhurst on Saturday, striking out 12 over the two games. For the week, she struck out 34 batters and recorded an 0.26 ERA en route to PSAC Central Pitcher of the Week honors. Erb is in position to tie and break the NCAA Division II record for career victories, a mark currently held by Barry head coach Danielle Penner, who pitched at California (PA) from 1995-98.
