Salem, Va. — Erin Ruest singled and Serena Fleming slid under the tag at home to give Salisbury a 3-2 win over Alma in 10 innings, the second straight extra-inning affair of the day.
Ruest’s game-deciding single capped a 2-for-5 day that included two RBIs and a run scored.
Salisbury (39-6) got the offense started in the opening inning, scoring two runs on singles by Ruest and Kareem Falcon.
Alma (39-7) bounced back in the next frame and tied the game up on a two-run home run to left field.
After the initial offensive bursts, both starters settled down and dominated the remainder of regulation. Lacey Lister picked up the win, going the full 10 innings with 11 strikeouts and giving up just five hits.
Leigh Ann LaFave went nine innings and suffered the loss. She gave up three runs and nine hits with eight strikeouts before giving way to Paula Stanford.
The Scots fall into the loser’s bracket to face top-seeded Chapman tomorrow, while Salisbury advances to face Moravian in an afternoon affair.
