CLEARWATER, Fla. – The list of travel ball squads with an opportunity to earn championship hardware during the NFCA Top Recruit Tournament at the Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Fla. has been slashed from the original 56 participants to just 28 following Saturday’s action.

Teams wrapped up pool play during the morning and early afternoon before entering bracket action later in the day. Semifinals have officially been set in 16-under Gold, Silver and Bronze brackets as well as in 18-under Gold, Silver, Bronze and Copper brackets.

Four unbeaten 4-0 teams are scheduled to battle for Sunday’s top prize in the Gold bracket of the 18-under division. Tampa Mustangs-Boynton (beat Wagner’s Gold Dunn in the quarterfinals 3-0) is set to face Gainesville Gold-Strickland (beat QuickSilver 9-0) while Sarasota Heat (beat Lady Gators-Jackson 9-8) will battle Tampa Mustangs-Conrad (beat Gold Coast Hurricanes 5-2) at 8 a.m. ET for the right to advance to the noon ET title tilt.

During the 18-under Silver bracket semis slated for 10 a.m. ET, Team Mizuno-Morgan (3-1) will play Central FL Eagles (3-1), while Plantation Pressure (2-2) is set to face Tampa Young Guns (3-1). At 10 a.m. ET in 18-under Bronze bracket semi action, Panthers Fastpitch (2-2) will play Bartow Intimidators (2-2) while Wagner’s Sports 55 (2-2) will face New Era Diamond Girls (2-2). During the 18-under Copper bracket semis, also scheduled for 8 a.m. ET, Lady Falcons (1-3) will face Florida Premier (1-3) while SO FL Lady Knights (1-3) will battle Southern Shockers-Keith (2-2).

On the 16-under side of things, the Gold bracket quarterfinals proved difficult for the three unbeatens from pool play as Windemere Wildfire-Pollock (lost to Orlando Flames 7-1), Sarasota Heat (lost to Florida Force 8-6) and Santa Fe Inferno (lost to Winter Springs Panthers 6-5 in 9 inn.) all suffered losses during their opening bracket play match-ups. As a result of that carnage, Sunday’s 8 a.m. semis now have Orlando Flames (3-1) facing-off against Windemere Wildfire Stutsman (3-1) and Winter Springs Panthers (3-1) battling Florida Force (3-1).

In 16-under Silver bracket action at 8 a.m. ET, Central FL Blazers (2-2) are scheduled to play CLW Bullets 98 (3-1), while Gold Coast Hurricanes (3-1) face CLW Bombers Mason (2-2). FL Fusion is set to play W.P. Diamond Dusters-Hodges at 10 a.m. ET, while Pines Thunder awaits word on its next opponent in the 16-under Bronze bracket semifinals. Citrus Chaos and Tampa Mustangs-TJ will play at 8 a.m. for the right to play in the semifinal round.
