San Francisco State pitcher Sonja Garnett has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player of the Week for the week of Mar. 13-19, the association announced Wednesday.
Garnett went 3-0 on the week with all three victories coming via complete-game shutouts. She struck out 24 batters while walking just two over 21 innings of work. She gave up 12 hits on the week, limiting opponents to a .160 average.
The two-time Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American opened the week with a two-hit victory over Cal State Stanislaus, striking out nine with one walk.
She followed that up with a pair of shutout victories over then-No. 2 Cal State Dominguez Hills. In the opening game of the twin bill she struck out a season-best 11 batters on six hits. She followed that with a four-hit blanking that included a walk and four K’s.
On the season, the senior from Chino, Calif., is 13-4 with 14 runs, 10 earned, on 84 hits with 80 strikeouts and 11 walks in 118 and two-thirds innings.
