Shamrocks (Arlington, Va.) head coach Tommy Orndorff, along with assistant coaches Mike Bures, John Clohan, Preston Everhart, Heiskell Gray and Donna Shaw have been named the 2005 Speedline/NFCA Travel Ball National Coaching Staff of the Year.

The Shamrocks’ 2005 success included an impressive 56-11 overall record. Orndorff also led the Shamrocks to the 2005 ASA 18U Gold National Championship, finishing with a flawless 7-0 mark for the week.

“No team in the country has more tradition than the Shamrocks,” Orndorff stated. “In truth, it was an awesome display by the Shamrocks, who were on their game in all aspects of softball, both offensively and defensively.”

Earlier in the summer, the Virginia-based team placed third at the Independence Day Invitational Tournament in Boulder, Colo., and The Championships Cup in Irving, California, finishing 10-1 in each of the prestigious tournaments.

The Shamrocks’ successes include a second place finish in 2003, losing in the finals to the Case Batbusters (CA).

The Shamrocks will attend their 20th straight ASA National at the 18U level in Oklahoma City, Okla., next summer. Coach Orndorff’s leadership throughout the past 32 years has led to almost 1,400 wins and seven top 10 finishes at ASA Nationals.
