ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.--The Shippensburg Lady Raiders eliminated the top-ranked Kennesaw State Owls 4-0 at the 2004 NCAA Division II National Softball
Tournament on Friday at the Seminole County Softball Complex.
The Raiders (47-5) grabbed an early lead in the third inning when Jaime Dacey knocked in Kristen Marll with a single.
Shippensburg iced the game in the fifth inning, scoring three runs. Jessica Miller led off with a single. Heather Chantiles pinch-ran and was moved over to second by a sacrifice. Marll walked and both runners advanced on a ground ball by Liz Corr. Chantiles scored on a wild pitch, Marll scored on a error and Sarah Costa knocked in Beth Rudai with a base hit.
Meanwhile Kelley Tiesi (29-2) was shutting down the powerful Owls. She tossed her 17th shutout, limiting KSU to just four hits and three walks, while striking out 14.
Janet Kearns (22-3) took the loss for Kennesaw State (64-6). She worked 4.2 innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks without striking out a batter.
The Raiders advance to face the loser of the Western New Mexico/St. Cloud State game at noon.
