Six teams went 2-0 on the opening day of the 2008 NFCA Leadoff Classic on Friday at the South Commons Complex in Columbus, Ga. 

Of the teams ranked in the current USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll, No. 2 Texas A&M (def. No. 19 DePaul and Georgia Tech), No. 4 Tennessee (def. UNC-Charlotte and Hofstra) and No. 12 Michigan (def. No. 18 Mississippi State and UCSB) were among the undefeated teams. 

The list of undefeated teams also included Florida State (def. UMass and Hofstra), Illinois State (def. Winthrop and UNC-Charlotte) and Nebraska (def. Tennessee Tech and No. 16 Louisiana-Lafayette). 

Individually, the day’s hottest hitter was Holly Tankersley of Louisiana-Lafayette. Tankersley went 5-for-7 on the day with six RBI and two home runs. In her team’s opener against North Carolina, Tankersley went 3-for-4 with five RBI and a home run and followed with a 2-for-3 performance including a home run against Nebraska. 

Illinois State’s Abby Olson also posted a six-RBI game, going 2-for-3 with a home run against UNC-Charlotte. 

In the circle, Florida State’s Terese Gober pitched a complete-game two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts. 

Saturday’s action starts off at 11 am EST at the South Commons Complex with No. 23 North Carolina facing Tennessee Tech at the main stadium, No. 4 Tennessee against Florida State in a battle of 2-0 teams on Field 5, and NC State against UCSB on Field 3.
