Oklahoma City, OK -- Two-time Olympic gold medalist Michele Smith pitched a complete game and hit a two-run single to give the WPSLWPSL Gold Team a 5-2 win over the WPSL All-Stars last night (June 14) at Hall of FAme Stadium. Smith rejoined the Gold Team on June 14, flying in from Japan, whre she competes in the Japanese Professional League.

"She pitched pretty well tonight," Gold Team Head Coach Judy Martino said. "It was good for her to get out there and throw all seven innings. I told this team, 'you are going to get hit this summer' and we had to come through offensively to win this ball game."

The WPSL All-Stars earned their first lead of the tour in the top of the second inning. Kim Maher opened the inning with a double. Monica Armendarez bunted to advance Maher to third, followed by Lyndsey Keith's single that plated the first run. The All-Stars increased the lead to 2-0 in the third inning, Patti Benedict singled to open the inning and advanced to second on Kellyn Tate's sacrifice bunt. Benedict then scored on an error.

After the Gold team came back to tie the game at 2-all, the All-Stars regained the lead on Smith's two-run single in the last of the sixth.

Smith finished the game with 10 strikeouts and allowed just one earned run.
