Fresno State pitcher Jamie Southern has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week for the week of March 15-21.

Southern, a junior from Clovis, Calif., went 4-1 for the Bulldogs at the KIA Klassic last week, compiling a 0.42 ERA while striking out 40 batters.

The All-American etched her name among the all-time career strikeout leaders list. Southern is No. 25 all-time with 925 career strikeouts, as she tossed her 40th career 10-strikeout game against Long Island. She became the first Fresno State and WAC pitcher to record 900 career strikeouts.

Southern made her 100th career start against Florida State and recorded her 75th career win against then-No. 7 Oklahoma. She pitched her third two-hitter of the season in a win over then-No. 13 Pacific.

At the plate, Southern went 5-for-15 with a run, a double, two sacrifices and two RBIs. On the season, she hit hitting a .330 clip and is second on the team with 35 hits. She leads the Bulldogs with a 0.23 ERA.
