Jennifer Martinez of St. Joseph's-Long Island has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Player of the Week for the week ending April 13, the association has announced.
Martinez went 5-0 for the Golden Eagles, with a 0.00 earned run average in six starts last week. The Bay Shore, N.Y., native struck out 70 and didn't allow a run in 35 innings, throwing two complete game one-hitters.
The senior opened the week by tossing back-to-back complete-game shutouts against No. 11 nationally ranked Ramapo, allowing just five hits over 14 innings. In a first-place Skyline Conference showdown with Polytechnic, she hurled two more shutouts as the Golden Eagles raised their record to 20-2 overall and 10-0 in conference.
Martinez also batted .667 on the week, scoring seven runs on 10 hits, with 5 RBI, a triple and a home run.
