Northwestern senior shortstop Tammy Williams has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week for the week ending March 8, the NFCA announced on Tuesday.
Williams batted .546 with a 1.364 slugging percentage, scoring five runs with three doubles and two home runs in four games last weekend as the Wildcats swept two games from then-No. 8 Tennessee and split a two-game set with then-No. 6 Oklahoma at The Preview presented by Worth at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
On Saturday against Tennessee, Williams went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles before finishing 2-for-3 with a solo home run in that day’s nightcap against Oklahoma. In Sunday’s first game against the Lady Vols, Williams doubled and homered in her first two at-bats, prompting Tennessee to intentionally walk her in the next three plate appearances.
Northwestern moved up from No. 16 to No. 13 in this week’s USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll.
