NFCASTARKVILLE, Miss. - With an eye toward postseason play, the State of Florida continues to represent well in this week’s USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25, which was released Thursday by the Association. The sunshine state gets a nod with four different teams in this week’s ranking. For a third straight week, The Woodlands (Woodlands, Texas) remains the nation’s No. 1 team.

Florida honorees include No. 2 American Heritage (20-0), No. 5 East Lake (22-0), No. 12 Gulliver Prep (19-2) and No. 20 Bartow (20-1).

American Heritage (Plantation, Florida) posted two shut outs last week, as the squad defeated Lafayette (8-0) and Hickory (16-0). Chelsea Wilkinson won both games in the circle, firing a one-hitter against Hickory and striking out 16 in the win over Lafayette.

Gulliver Prep (Miami, Florida) continued the shut out theme by throwing three of them this past week. The Raiders defeated St. Brendan (11-0), Ransom Everglades (5-0) and Jupiter (1-0).

Elsewhere, East Lake (Tarpon Springs, Florida) had a light week last week, while Bartow (Bartow, Florida) tries to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to George Jenkins. That setback snapped a season-opening 20-game win streak.

Making the biggest splash this week is Coronado (Lubbock, Texas). The Mustangs debut at tenth after a pair of convincing wins over Amarillo (12-0) and Lubbock (11-1). Also making their 2011 poll debuts this week are Hazleton (Hazleton, Pennsylvania, 1-0) and Banks (Banks, Oregon, 9-1).

The USA Today/NFCA Top 25 is compiled by state representatives from across the country.

Records for this week’s poll include all games played through April 10, 2011.
