OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The UCLA Bruins won their 11th NCAA Division I National Championship on Tuesday night by cruising past Arizona, 15-9, in game two on the 2010 Women's College World Series Championship Series at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.
After winning on Monday, the Bruins clinched the title on Tuesday by virtue of a 2-0 win in the Championship Series. UCLA is just the 13th team in WCWS history to win the title with an undefeated record at the finals, after going 5-0 in this year's tournament.
UCLA (50-11) put the first two runs on the board in the game during the first inning when senior Megan Langenfeld went yard for a WCWS record 4th time in the contest, clearing the right field fence and driving in junior Monica Harrison.
Langenfeld, the 2010 WCWS Most Outstanding Player, finished the game by going 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run. Her .706 WCWS batting average and on-base percentage of .783 are the second-highest in tournament history, while her slugging percentage of 1.529 is a new WCWS high.
The Bruins added four more runs in the second inning with a grand slam from sophomore Andrea Harrison to right center that made her just the sixth player in WCWS history to accomplish the feat.
Arizona (49-12) was no slouch at the plate on the night, getting nine runs off of nine hits, including a solo home run from sophomore Lini Koria and two long balls from junior Stacie Chambers, but it was no match for UCLA's record-breaking night.
The Bruins set new WCWS single-game marks for hits and runs in the game with 19 and 15, respectively, and tied the single-game record for home runs of four that was set by Georgia in 2009.
Also going yard in the contest for UCLA was sophomore Julie Burney and senior Samantha Camuso, giving the Bruins a total of 14 home runs in the tournament. The 14 home runs by UCLA in this year's WCWS doubles the previous mark of seven that was also set by Georgia in 2009.
Getting the win for UCLA in the circle was sophomore Aleah Macon (13-1) who allowed six runs off of six hits with seven strikeouts through 4.1 innings of work. The loss for Arizona went to freshman Kenzie Fowler (38-9) who gave up three runs off of two hits with no strikeouts in one inning.
