LOUISVILLE, Ky. — For the seventh straight week this season, and the 10th consecutive week overall, unbeaten two-time defending national champion Tufts University is the unanimous choice atop the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Top 25 softball rankings.
Tufts (14-0) was idle last week after games against Bates were postponed. The Jumbos have received all eight first-place votes going back to last April and have been ranked No. 1 in 11 of the last 14 polls and 16 of the last 20.
Division III runner-up Salisbury (12-1), claimed six more games this week to extend its win streak to 15 games and keep sole possession of the No. 2 spot.
Fifth-place NCAA finisher East Texas Baptist (14-2), meanwhile, dropped its first two games of the season to Texas-Tyler on Tuesday night after dealing the (22-1) Patriots their first loss on Monday. The two teams are tied for third in the poll, while Luther (22-0) remains fifth and undefeated Rowan (20-0) continued its march up the rankings one more spot this week to No. 6.
Illinois Wesleyan (17-3) went 5-2 to fall one place to seventh, while Trine (19-2), Emory (24-2) and Simpson (21-5) continue to round out the top 10 teams.
The College of New Jersey (9-3) used a pair of 3-0 victories over William Paterson to earn its first votes of the season and tie George Fox (23-5) for 25th, while the two defeats knocked the (9-5) Pioneers — who were 17th last week — off the Top 25 trail for the time being. Linfield (17-7) was the other team that dropped out of the rankings, while Williams (12-3) makes its return — in the No. 23 spot — after a one-week hiatus.
The NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll is selected by eight NCAA Division III head coaches representing the eight NCAA regions. Current records are listed, with first-place votes in parentheses.
