The USA World University team unleashed a nine-hit attack against Australia Wednesday afternoon to roll to a 9-1 win and remain undefeated at the 2nd World University Games in Tainan City, Taiwan. 


Tina Boutelle started the scoring as she reached on the first of three Aussie errors, advanced on a sacrifice bunt from Jackie Rinehart and scored on Christina Clark’s single to centerfield. 

The Americans expanded the lead with a two-out rally that plated four additional runs in the second. Kaitlin Cochran, who was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, reached on a grounder back to the pitcher. Following a Lauren Lappin walk, both scored on a triple by Boutelle. 

After Australia scored its first run of the game, the U.S. answered with another offensive explosion In the fourth. Rinehart and Clark led off with walks and Rinehart scored on Samantha Findlay’s single to left. Clark and Findlay both scored when Cambria Miranda belted a double to left center. Lappin drove in the final run of the inning for the 9-1 lead that would become the final tally. 

Jennie Ritter pitched the first four innings to pick up the win, while Brianne McGowan retired Australia in order to close the game in the fifth. 

The USA faces host Chinese Taipei, the only other undefeated team in the tournament, Thursday.
