USA Red defeated Phoenix Storm 8-1 and USA Blue posted a 2-0 win over California A's during Wednesday's play at the 2001 Canada Cup in Surrey, British Columbia.
USA Blue improved to 6-0 at the Cup as Jennifer Sharron tossed a two-hit shutout. Jaime Clark's leadoff home run in the bottom of the fifth inning broke a scoreless tie and Lauren Bauer added an RBI-single later in the inning. USA Red (5-1) used a three-run first inning and a five-run fourth inning to rebound from its only loss of the tournament. Natasha Watley tripled and Amanda Freed homered to spark USA Red in the first inning. An RBI-double by Lindsay Gardner and three Phoenix errors helped lead to the fourth-inning outburst. Keira Goerl tossed four hitless innings for the win and Catherine Osterman pitched the fifth and final inning. Go to USA Softball for additional game details.
