USA Red suffered its first loss of the Canada Cup, falling to Australia 6-3 Tuesday at Surrey, British Columbia. Stacey Nuveman's RBI-single in the bottom of the fifth inning put USA Red on top 3-2, but home runs by Peta Edebone and Alisa Denne keyed a four-run sixth inning to put Australia ahead to stay. The loss drops USA Red to 4-1.
Nina Lindenberg's three-run home run capped a five-run fifth inning to lead USA Blue to a 5-1 victory over the NJCAA All-Stars Tuesday. Keri McCallum's two-out single and stolen base ignited the rally as Lauren Bauer and Jenny Topping connected on RBI-singles, setting the stage for Lindenberg's third home run of the Canada Cup.
The two USA squads will celebrate Independence Day with two games apiece. USA Red plays the Phoenix Storm at 2 p.m. (EST) and Japan White at 11:30 p.m., while USA Blue faces the California A's at 4:30 p.m. and Japan Red at 9:30 p.m.
