LOUISVILLE, KY. – After finishing last season with a record of 26-1 and an end of season No. 3 ranking on the USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25 Poll, the Diablos of Mission Viejo (Calif.) begin this year’s campaign as the pre-season No. 1. The Diablos open the season on Tuesday, March 3 against San Clemente.
Alexander Central (Taylorsville, N.C.) spent all of the 2014 season atop the USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25 and enters this year at No. 4. Rounding out the top 5 are No. 2 Deer Park (Texas), No. 3 The Woodlands (Texas), and No. 5 Red Mountain (Mesa, Ariz.).
Twelve states are represented on the pre-season USA Today Sports/NFCA High School Super 25 with California, Texas, and Florida each with four teams.
State rankings submitted by NFCA member coaches are used to help compile the USA Today Sports/NFCA High School Super 25. Among the criteria considered are a school's strength of schedule, the quality of competition in its state or league, and the quality of its players.
The records reflected in the pre-season poll are end of season records from 2014.
The USA Today Sports/NFCA High School Super 25 will resume on Thursday, March 26 and will be released every Thursday through June 11.
