STARKVILLE, Miss. – Sophomore pitcher Sara Nevins of 24th-ranked South Florida has been named as the Louisville Slugger Division I National Player of the Week for games played March 5-11.

Nevins had a tremendous week for the Bulls going 3-0 with two saves in six appearances. Through 27.1 innings of work, the Pinellas Park, Fla., native allowed no runs, just seven hits and two walks while striking out an astonishing 37 batters. She finished the week with a 0.00 ERA and an opponent’s batting average of .078.

Highlighting the week for Nevins was tossing the first no-hitter of her career, and USF’s first since 2004, on Saturday against Central Connecticut and then following it up with a perfect game against Toledo on Sunday. The sophomore has not allowed an earned run over the past 33.2 innings and has not allowed a hit over the last 16.1.

On the year, Nevins is now 9-2 with three saves over 19 appearances with four solo shutouts and a 0.78 ERA. She also has a team-leading 94 strikeouts, just 13 walks and an opponent’s batting average of .179.

The Bulls, who moved into the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 poll at No. 24 this week, went 6-0 last week and are now 19-4 on the year. This week, USF will play five games in the USF Invite, its final home tournament of the season. The highlight of the weekend will come on Sunday when the Bulls face No. 21 Florida State in a Top 25 match-up of in-state rivals.

Minnesota’s Sara Moulton
went 2-1 for the Gophers on the week with a 0.00 ERA, 34 strikeouts and a no-hitter against Florida Atlantic… Camilla Carrera of UTEP hit .577 last week for the Miners with 15 hits, 12 runs, 19 RBIs and seven home runs… IPFW’s Courtney Cronin limited opponents to a tepid .081 batting average while pitching 19 scoreless innings and striking out 22… Katelyn Boyd of Arizona State hit .563 over a 5-0 week for the fifth-ranked Sun Devils including 14 RBIs, a 1.375 slugging percentage and six stolen bases… Fordham’s Lindsay Kay Bright was a perfect 9-for-9 on the week with three walks and two RBIs, as the Rams won three out of five in Florida…
