Texas-Tyler junior Stacy Shepherd has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Player of the Week for the week ending April 25, the association has announced. Shepherd guided UT Tyler to the No. 1 spot in the nation in the NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll after a 6-0 week, including a sweep over American Southwest Conference rival and former No. 1, Louisiana College.
The Houston native went 2-0 with two saves and a 1.31 ERA in five total appearances, allowing only four earned runs and striking out 15 hitters over 21 1/3 innings of work. In the opener against LC, Shepherd sent 5 1/3 innings, giving up seven hits and three earned runs in the 4-3 victory. She followed that with 1 2/3 innings of work, giving up no earned runs to complete the save in the 7-4 win.
With her third strikeout in Sunday's opening-game win over the Lady Choctaws, Shepherd became the first pitcher in program history to eclipse the 200-strikeout mark. She stayed a perfect 17-0 in the circle on the year and now leads the league with three saves.
