STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Blazers of Valdosta State went 2-0 in the first two weeks of play to hold on to their No. 1 ranking in the first regular season NFCA Division II Top 25 poll of 2011, the Association announced on Wednesday. 

Valdosta garnered 11 of 16 first-place votes, while the other five were given to second-ranked North Georgia. The Saints have also opened the season undefeated and currently stand at 8-0. Jumping from eighth to third this week was Angelo State, who has a 9-0 record out of the gate. 

Rounding out the top five was Hawaii Pacific (4-2) who fell from third to fourth and Bloomsburg (0-0) who dropped one spot, from fourth to fifth. 

Joining the poll this week was UC San Diego who went from not receiving any votes in the preseason poll to 11th this week after a 9-1 start. Also making their 2011 poll debuts this week were Augustana (SD) at 15th, Kutztown (4-0) at 17th and Western Washington (5-0) at 23rd. 

Falling out of the rankings this week were No. 14 Grand Canyon (6-4), No. 15 Metro St. (1-1), No. 21 New Haven (0-0) and No. 25 Central Washington (2-3). 

The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions.
