ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The No. 2 Valdosta State Blazers withstood a strong seventh inning rally by Bloomsburg to win the second game of the 2010 NCAA Division II Championships, 7-5, on Thursday at Heritage Park in St. Joseph. 

Valdosta got the scoring going in the first inning on a on an RBI-single from senior Stephanie Carlson that drove in sophomore Marti Littlefield and put the Blazers on top, 1-0. 

Carlson drove in another run in the third inning with a single up the middle to score freshman Morgan Johnson. The Blazers went on to add two runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth, all by way of home run in successive innings from Melessa Jackson, Sarah Vaughn and Littlefield, respectively. 

However in the seventh, an error by Valdosta (49-8) opened the door for Bloomsburg, allowing the Huskies to score five runs. Bloomsburg had an opportunity to tie the game with two outs, but after hitting two foul ball home runs Sam Pientack eventually lined out to the center fielder to end the game. 

Valdosta pitcher Holly Satterfield went 6.2 innings to get the win by allowing just one unearned run off of five hits with five strikeouts to improve to 26-3 on the season. Junior Margaret Carter came in to earn the last out of the game and pick up her second save of the season. 

Junior Shavaun Fisher took the loss for the Huskies (49-7) by allowing six runs on nine hits to drop her record to 34-6. 

The Blazers will now face top-ranked North Georgia on Friday at 4 p.m. CDT, while Bloomsburg will meet Molloy in the first elimination game of the tournament on Saturday at 12 p.m. CDT.
