STARKVILLE, Miss. – The staff of 2010 national runners-up Wallace State Community College - Hanceville, including head coach Jayne Clem and assistant coach Tracy Grindrod, have been named as the 2010 National Fastpitch Coaches Association NJCAA Division I National Coaching Staff of the Year, the Association announced on Tuesday.

Clem and Grindrod led the Lady Lions to a 62-9 record on the year and a second place finish at the national tournament for the second consecutive year.

Wallace State went 19-1 in league play on the season and won the Alabama Community College Conference North Division title. The Lady Lions went onto win the ACCC and Region XXII titles, before fighting their way out of the elimination bracket and into the championship game at the national tournament with a 6-2 final record at the event.

Leading the Lady Lions on the field this season were 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Americans Kelsey Dennis, Saige Wright and Katie Pierce. Dennis finished the season with a 31-1 record and the fifth lowest ERA in all of NJCAA Division I at 0.69. She also posted the highest batting average on her team this season, leading the charge at .353.

On offense for the Lady Lions, Pierce and Wright proved to be a potent combination, batting .333 and .327, respectively. Pierce finished the year with 16 runs and 16 stolen bases, while Wright hit for extra bases 16 times and stole 43 bases of her own.

Earlier in the month, the Wallace State coaches were named as a finalist for the award by winning one of three Regional Coaching Staff of the Year awards. Also taking home regional honors this season were the staffs of Blinn College in the Midwest and Salt Lake Community College in the West.
