STARKVILLE, Miss. – West Texas A&M sophomore Kimberly LeComte and Dowling sophomore Jessie Stavola have been named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played between April 26 and May 2, 2010.
LeComte was nearly perfect on the week going 10-for-11 from the plate with seven runs, 12 RBIs, four doubles, three homeruns, a grand slam and two stolen bases over three games against Abilene Christian. She hit an unbelievable .909 on the week, with an astronomical 2.364 slugging percentage and a .909 on-base percentage.
Not only did the Boerne, Texas, native have multiple hits and multiple RBIs in each game last week, she also went yard in each contest as well. With 20 home runs so far this season, LeComte is currently tied for the most home runs in all of Division II.
The three game sweep of Abilene helped earn the 11th-ranked Lady Buffs the No. 1 seed from the South Division in this weekend’s Lone Star Conference tournament. West Texas A&M completed its Lone Star slate with a 14-4 record and now stands at 42-14 overall.
Stavola went 3-0 last week, turning in a 10-plus strikeout performance in each of her three victories. She finished the week with a 0.00 ERA and allowed just three hits, one unearned run and seven walks while fanning 42 batters.
The Montauk, N.Y. native recorded three complete games in three starts last week, while notching shutouts in two of those contests. Stavola allowed just one hit in each of her three wins last week, including a 2-1 win over No. 17 C.W. Post in which she struck out 16.
The Golden Lions wrapped up their regular season last week by going 6-2 are now 38-14 on the year. Dowling’s 23-5 East Coast Conference record was good enough to earn the Lions the second seed in this weekend’s conference tournament, an event which they will host.
