Louisiana cut the lead by one in the fourth on a walk by Becky McMurtry, a single on an error by Tiffany Grayson that put runners at first and second, and a deep fly ball that scored McMurtry. The Bruins got some breathing room, though in the sixth when senior Monique Mejia hit her second home run of her career to put UCLA up 4-1. Two batters later, Natasha Watley tripled to center field putting the Bruins up 5-1. The Ragin' Cajuns then brought in Afton Thoms to close out the side.
Louisiana was eliminated. UCLA will play again tonight at 8:30 p.m. CDT.
WHAT THEY SAID
"I'm pleased with how we managed to come back and be resilient. It shows our fortitude to stay in the game.
"I'm so very proud of the team and the way we fought all year to get here. These girls show they have a lot of heart. They fought through a lot of adversity. I'm so proud of them. We fought hard and tried to make adjustments. We stack up as well as anyone here."
"I wouldn't want to end my season anywhere else but here. There's only eight teams left in the nation and we're one of them."
