Both teams would leave three stranded in the first inning, but only the Sooners was able to score. In the bottom of the first, leadoff batter Kelli Braitsch drew a walk. Leah Gulla hit a double to center field that scored Braitsch from first. The next batter, Christina Enea also doubled to center field, but Gulla was unable to score. Although Heather Scaglione walked to load the bases, Jennifer Stump and Kristin Vesely both struck out to retire the side. The defending champs tied it up in the second on a leadoff single to right field from Chelsea Spencer. Vicky Galindo got an infield single when the ball was hit in front of the plate; Galindo beat the throw to first and Spencer scored from second. The Golden Bears got on top in the fourth on a Kaleo Eldredge leadoff bunt, followed immediately by a Chelsea Spencer bunt and a sacrifice bunt from Jessica Pamanian that put runners at second and third. Kristin Morely walked to load the bases, and Vicky Galindo singled over the shortstop's head to score two. Galindo stole second, but Mikella Pedretti ground out to right field and Courtney Scott fouled out. The Sooners answered quickly in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run from Jennifer Stump. However, they couldn't hold on as the Golden Bears padded its lead in the top of the seventh when Chelsea Spencer hit her second home run of the season to put Cal up 5-2. Despite getting one on in the bottom of the seventh, Cal kept Oklahoma at bay to advance.
Louisiana was eliminated. UCLA will play again tonight at 8:30 p.m. CDT.

WHAT THEY SAID

"I thought it was a great game. These were two teams with their backs against the wall. This team came back with a lot of courage and heart. When Chelsea hit the home run I felt comfortable that we would win." ON A WCWS REMATCH WITH ARIZONA: "(The team) has to believe and know that they can beat Arizona. Whatever it takes to beat Arizona. I know they will come out and play their best. I think we'll probably draw on last year. Arizona is a great team; a great combination of power and speed."
California head coach Diane Ninemire

"The game just went our way. It was just good baserunning. When they scored in the top of the first, I knew we had a lot of game left in us."
California player Vicky Galindo

"We've seen Alicia (Hallowell) three times. We know what she has. If we come out with our A-game, it will be a good game. We have to come prepared and come to the game knowing we will have a good game. It will take everything we have to beat Arizona."
California player Chelsea Spencer on facing Arizona tomorrow.

"We gave it a good fight. Kami (Keiter) did an incredible job and had us in the game until the seventh. These are three seniors that went out with a bang. Our goal was to be standing on Sunday and we just came a little short."
Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso

"Just our never-say-die attitude. If I go down, I want to go down with a fight, and we did."
Oklahoma senior Kelli Braitsch on her most memorable WCWS moment.
