Kelly Kretschman scored a run and drove in a run, and Lisa Fernandez tossed a four-hit shutout as WPSL Gold defeated WPSL All-Stars 3-0 Wendesday at Kiwanis Field in Salem, Va., in the WPSL Tour of Fastpitch Champions.

Kretschman doubled down the left field line and advanced to third on the throw to lead off the bottom of the first inning. One out later, Kretschman scored when Crystl Bustos' grounder to short was mishandled.

A second error sparked a two-run second inning as Sheila Douty and Jennifer McFalls notched back-to-back one-out singles. Douty scored when Michelle Venturella reached on an error and McFalls scored on Kretschman's RBI-single, chasing starting pitcher Steph Klaviter. Amy Kyler pitched the final 4.2 innings in relief, allowing one hit.

Fernandez withstood a first-inning threat when Patti Benedict led off the game with a single and Jaime Foutch followed with a single one out later. The two runners advanced on a passed ball, but Fernandez got out of the inning with a strikeout. After allowing a one out single to Julie Smith, Fernandez retired the next 12 batters.

The two teams remain in Salem for a doubleheader Thursday beginning at 6 p.m. (EDT).
