Lisa Fernandez led of the top of the ninth with a home run to break a 1-1 tie as WPSL Gold defeated the WPSL All-Stars 2-1 Wednesday at Seymour Smith Softball Complex in Omaha, Nebraska, in the final game of the 2001 WPSL Tour of Fastpitch Champions.

On the mound, Fernandez overcame a first-inning home run by Patti Benedict to finish with a five-hitter. WPSL All-Stars pitcher Kaci Clark tossed a four-hitter and held Gold scoreless until the sixth inning. Both pitchers went the distance.

WPSL Gold finishes the tour with an overall record of 18-6-1, including a 15-4-1 mark against the All-Stars. The WPSL All-Stars went 6-15-1 overall on the tour and 4-15-1 against Gold. The tour also included contest against the U.S. and Canadadian National Teams, as well as local all-star teams.

Next step for the WPSL will be determining which cities will be awarded league franchises for the 2002 season.
