The Women's Pro Softball League has announced game times for its 2001 WPSL Tour of Fastpitch Champions2001 WPSL Tour of Fastpitch Champions, which begins June 1 in Plant City, Fla. The WPSL has also announced dates and times for two games that will be televised live on ESPN, along with seven games to be televised on ESPN2 on a tape-delayed basis.

The Tour of Fastpitch Champions features two teams from the WPSL, WPSL Gold and the WPSL All-Stars. WPSL Gold is comprised of players who competed at the 2000 Olympics, including U.S. gold medalists Laura Berg, Jennifer Brundage, Crystl Bustos, Sheila Douty, Lisa Fernandez and Michele Smith. The WPSL All-Stars features veterans from the WPSL, including award winners from the 2000 season: MVP Patti Benedict, Pitcher of the Year and League Championship MVP Steph Klaviter, Home Run Champion Jaime Foutch and Defensive Player of the Year Julie Smith.

The live games on ESPN -- a first for the WPSL -- will take place on June 17and June 24. On June 17, WPSL Gold will take on "USA Red," one of two U.S. National Teams to be selected in early June. The game will be played at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif., at noon (Pacific). One week later, WPSL Gold will take on the WPSL All-Stars at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio. Game time is 2 p.m. (Eastern).

The tour is scheduled to run through September 1. Next year, the WPSLWPSL plans to resume a regular league schedule and expand to 6-8 teams.
