LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Wells’ Anya Chase, Northeastern’s Sierra Gilmore, Christian Academy of Knoxville’s Hannah Devault, Beckville’s Ashley Cook and Bellevue Christian’s Becca Jewett have been named MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for contests played May 16-22.
East Region – Anya Chase (Wells (Maine) HS)
Recording three four-hit contests, Chase was nearly perfect at the plate last week. She went 4-for-4 with a double and three runs scored in wins over Kennebunk and Old Orchard Beach. Chase capped off her week by going 4-for-5 with two triples, two runs scored and an RBI against Freeport. For the week, she hit .923 (12-for-13) with two doubles, two triples, eight runs scored, two RBI, two stolen bases and a 1.384 slugging percentage
North Region – Sierra Gilmore (Northeastern HS – Fountain City, Ind.)
Six of Gilmore’s seven hits went for extra bases as the junior slugged a whopping 2.250 in a pair of 6-0 shutouts for the Knights. She went 7-for-8 at the dish (.875) with three doubles, a triple and two home runs. Against Cambridge City Lincoln, Gilmore was a single shy of the cycle as she doubled, tripled, homered and scored twice. A day later, she went 4-for-4 with a double, long ball, two RBI and two runs scored.
South Region – Hannah Devault (Christian Academy of Knoxville (Tenn.))
Devault hit .778 (7-for-9) with six of her seven hits going for extra bases. She doubled three times, triples twice and left the yard once helping the Warriors to a 3-0 week. She knocked in nine runs, scored five and slugged 1.888 over three games. In her first game of the week, she went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, home run , three RBI and two runs against Gatlinburg-Pittman. The senior shortstop closed out the week with a pair of doubles, five RBI and three runs in the Warriors’ second contest against Unicoi County.
South Central Region – Ashley Cook (Beckville (Texas) HS)
Swift keyed Beckville to a doubleheader sweep of Groveton. She registered a pair of 3-for-4 outings with two doubles, two triples, six RBI and five runs scored. In the opener, Swift tripled twice, knocked in two and scored three times. She continued her momentum into game two, posting two doubles with a season-high four RBI and two runs scored.
West Region – Becca Jewett (Bellevue Christian – Clyde Hill, Wash.)
Jewett posted a lofty 1.818 slugging percentage with four doubles, a triple and two home runs, while driving in 13 runs for the Vikings. She started the week by hitting for cycle against Sammamish, going 4-for-4 with six RBI and two runs scored. After doubling twice against Coupeville, Jewett closed out the week with another six-RBI performance. She went 2-for-4 with a double, round tripper and scored twice against Chimacum. For the week, she hit .727 (8-for-11) and recorded a .769 on-base percentage.
