LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Baldwin’s (N.Y.) Nicole Danyi, New Athens (Ill.) Abby Marlow, Orange’s (N.C.) Mia Davidson, Bethlehem’s Grason Gasser and Valley Christian’s (Ariz.) Hailey Heeringa have been named MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for contests played March 14-20.

East Region – Nicole Danyi (Baldwin HS – Baldwin, N.Y.)
Danyi opened her 2016 campaign by hitting .857 (6-for-7) with two triples and home run, six RBI and two runs scored to help the Bruins defeat Lynbrook and Carle Place in their first two games of the season. The junior catcher went 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored in the season-opening win against Lynbrook. A day later, she triple, homered and knocked in four in a 13-1 triumph over Carle Place.

North Region – Abby Marlow (New Athens HS - New Athens, Ill.)
Marlow had a hand in all three of New Athens’ victories to start the season. At the plate, she was 6-for-8 (.750) with two doubles and home run, five RBI and seven runs scored. In the circle, she twirled a pair of complete-game shutouts, surrendering six hits and striking out 14 in 12 innings of work. In the season opening 15-0 win over Gibault Catholic, the senior scattered four hits, struck out 10 and walked one, while knocking in two runs for the Yellow Jackets. Marlow went a combined 5-for-6 with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and six runs during doubleheader sweep of Sparta. In game one, she homered, scored four times and tossed a two-hit shutout with four puchouts.

South Region – Mia Davidson (Orange HS - Hillsborough, N.C.)
Davidson, retired just once in 11 plate appearances, hit .900 (9-for-10), clubbed four home runs, knocked in 11 and scored nine more times. She also tripled and walked to record a monstrous 2.300 slugging percentage and .917 on-base percentage. The junior captain’s big performance came in a 12-3 win over Person in which she went 4-for-4 with two long balls, five RBI and three runs scored. Davidson homered and knocked in three in her other two outings and scored a week-high four runs against Northern Vance.

South Central Region – Grason Gasser (Bethlehem HS – Bardstown, Ky.)  
Gasser started off her senior season with a bang. She clocked in with a perfect 1.000 batting average, going 10-for-10 at the dish with six doubles, a home run, 11 RBI and five runs scored. In the season opener against Caverna, Gasser went 4-for-4 with four two-baggers and six RBI in a 17-2 victory over Caverna. She was 3-for-3 with a double in the following two contests. Against Green County, Gasser also homered, knocked in two and scored twice. She capped her weekend off with three RBI versus Larue County.

West Region – Hailey Heeringa (Valley Christian HS – Chandler, Ariz)
Heeringa was a menace at the plate last week in leading Valley Christian to a 3-1-1 mark. In five games, the senior shortstop left the yard seven times, drove in 30 runs and scored 17 times. Batting .905 (19-for-21), she also registered a double and four triples for 49 total bases and a 2.333 slugging percentage. Ten of those RBI came in a 14-13 victory over Desert Christian in which she was 4-for-5 with two triples, two long balls and four runs. A day later, Heeringa knocked in nine more runs with a 4-for-4 outing, one double, two triples and a home run. She scored a season-high five runs against Benjamin Franklin and recorded her first multi-homer contest (2) with five RBI versus Superior.
