MaxPreps / NFCA National High School Player of the Week, MaxPreps / NFCA High School Player of the Week, MacKinley Portillo, Alicia Betancourt MaryJane Limon,

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Douglas’ (Ala.) MacKinley Portillo, Roby’s (Texas) Alicia Betancourt and Palm Desert’s (Calif.) MaryJane Limon were named 2023 MaxPreps / NFCA National High School Players of the Week. The trio garnered recognition for games played Feb. 27-March 5.

South Region

Portillo led her team to a 4-0 week, batting .818 (9-for-11) with a double, two triples, two home runs and 12 RBI. She scored five runs, posted a .833 on-base percentage and slugged 1.818. The senior kicked off her week, going 4-for-5 with a pair of triples and six RBI versus Susan Moore. Portillo added a homer and two RBI versus Cleveland. In the second game against Susan Moore, she doubled, homered and drove in four runs. Additionally, she twirled seven innings of shutout ball with 20 strikeouts, two walks and two hits allowed over two appearances.

South Central Region

Betancourt was a perfect 8-for-8 with five doubles, a triple, home run and 10 RBI in wins over Trent and O’Donnell, respectively. She slugged 2.250 and reached base safely in 11 plate appearances. Four of her doubles came in the week’s opener against Trent. Betancourt registered four RBI and scored twice in that contest. On the weekend, she was 3-for-3 and reached base safely in all six plate appearances against O’Donnell. She doubled, homered, drove in six and scored six times. 

West Region

Limon went 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and allowed just two hits over 14 innings. She fanned 30 batters and walked three. In an eight-inning win (2-1) over Indigo, Limon allowed an unearned run and two hits, while striking out 14 and issuing two walks. In two games against Xavier Prep, the senior hurler tossed six innings of hitless ball with 16 strikeouts and one walk. In game two, she was perfect in three innings of work (8 K). Limon contributed at the plate as well, going 8-for-11 (.727) with a homer and six RBI. Three of those hits, along with four RBI and the long ball came in game one against Xavier Prep.
