LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Stratford’s (Conn.) Ellie Lubas, Beecher’s (Ill.) Ava Lorenzatti, Riverside Academy’s (La.) Alainah Felton, Daviess County’s (Ky.) Raylee Roby and Durango’s (Nev.) Juliana Martinez were named 2023 MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week. The quintet garnered recognition for games played April 3-9.
East Region
Lubas reached base safely in all 11 plate appearances, going 7-for-7 with a double, three triples and two home runs. She recorded nine RBI and nine runs scored, slugged 2.857 and was 5-for-5 swiping bases. In the season opener against Greenwich, Lubas homered twice, drove in four runs and drew a pair of walks. Against Joel Barlow, the junior was 5-for-5 with a double, three triples, five RBI and five runs scored.
North Region
Lorenzatti twirled a pair of perfect games and tossed 15 no-hit innings, striking out 37 of 45 batters she faced with one free pass. In her first perfecto against Clifton Central, she struck out 18 of 21 batters she faced. After a one-inning shutout relief appearance (2 K, BB), Lorenzatti fanned 17 batters in her second straight perfect game in a 3-0 victory over Huntley.
South Region
Felton launched four home runs and recorded 14 RBI as she keyed Riverside to three victories last week. Two of those long balls came against Zachary in which she also doubled, drove in five runs and scored three times. She went 3-for-4 with a homer and seven RBI versus Chalmette and added another round tripper, two RBI and two runs scored against McGehee. For the week, Felton batted .889 (8-for-9), scored six runs and slugged 2.333.
South Central Region
Roby recorded two no-hitters and struck out 31 in 14 innings last week. In a 1-0 win over Pendleton County, she struck out 14 and issued three walks. Roby followed that performance with a 17-strikeout effort with one free pass against Ryle.
West Region
Martinez was a perfect 8-for-8 at the plate with 10 RBI in a pair of wins for Durango last week. Her week was highlighted by a 6-for-6 showing with a double, two homers and eight RBI in victory over Bonanza. She also went 2-for-2 with three runs scored against Cheyenne.
