LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Orchard Park’s (N.Y.) Ava Farina, Hazel Park’s (Minn.) Ashia Estell, South Central’s (N.C.) Haven Roebuck, Spring’s Mariah DeBose and Carbon’s (Utah) Haven Byerly were named 2023 MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week. The quintet garnered recognition for games played April 10-16.
East Region
Farina tossed a pair of complete-game shutouts last week. She posted a one-hitter with 13 punchouts and one walk against Clarence. The sophomore hurler followed up with a three-hit blanking of Lancaster with 12 strikeouts and one walk. Farina added a double and RBI versus Clarence and two base knocks against Lancaster.
North Region
Estell went 7-for-7 with six extra-base hits, a 2.857 slugging percentage and reached base safely in all 10 plate appearances. She doubled, recorded three triples, homered twice, drove in 10 runs and scored nine times. Estell was a double short of the cycle with four RBI and two runs scored in game one versus Southfield Arts & Tech. She added two triples and three runs scored in game two. Estell capped off her week with both her long balls, five RBI and four runs against Eastpointe.
South Region
Roebuck went 10-for-10 with a triple, home run, 11 RBI and seven runs scored. She drew three walks and slugged 2.100. Roebuck registered a pair of four-RBI outings against Northside-Jacksonville and C.B. Aycock, homering twice in the former. Roebuck went 4-for-4 with a triple, home run, three RBI and three runs scored against East Duplin.
South Central Region
DeBose homered three times, drove in nine runs and slugged 2.250 last week for the Lions. All three home runs and eight of her RBI came in a win over Dekaney. In that contest, DeBose was 4-for-5 and also scored four runs. In her other contest, she was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases against MacArthur.
West Region
Byerly twirled a pair of no-hitters and struck out 29 batters over 14 innings last week. She fanned a season-best 16 and walked two in a 4-0 triumph over Morgan. Byerly added 13 more strikeouts with one free pass versus Emery.
